Have you ever wondered what politics is really all about?
Have you ever wondered what politics is really all about? Tired of being a mere observer, and interested in being part of the action? Tired of just complaining about what's wrong with our country, and wanting to be part of the solution? I've got an answer - become a political volunteer. No party relies more on volunteers that the NDP. We simply don't have the deep-pocketed supporters and extensive resources that the Conservatives in particular have. But we have the best resource of all, legions of enthusiastic, positive supporters who believe the NDP's commitment to positive social values and inclusion. The vision and values of leaders like Tommy Douglas, Ed Broadbent, Alexa McDonough, Stephen Lewis and Jack Layton are alive and well, continuing to motivate social democrats who want a Canada where truly no one is left behind. Their legacy is kept alive by current leaders like Tom Mulcair and Irene Mathyssen - and by the thousands of Canadians like you who are active NDP supporters. Some myths: - "Politicians are all alike." Well - NO! My proof? Our greatest Canadian, Tommy Douglas, the father of Canadian Medicare. Jack Layton, whose death caused a spontaneous outpouring of grief and love never before seen in Canada. And MP Irene Mathyssen, whose hard work and dedication to her constituents and to our society has been unmatched. NDPers are proud to be decidedly, positively different. - "I can't really make a difference." A self-fulfilling prophecy at best, one relied on by those cynical politicians who abuse the power that has democratically been granted to them. Some quotes: - Margaret Mead: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Jack Layton: "Don't let them tell you it can't be done" - Tommy Douglas: "Courage, my friends, it's not too late to make a better world." We invite you to support a party that strives tirelessly to make a positive difference, that is proudly motivated by Jack Layton's final words to Canadians: "love is better than anger; hope is better than fear; optimism is better than despair". Volunteers are particularly needed during election campaigns, but we also need volunteers between elections to help our riding association support the work of our wonderful MP, Irene Mathyssen, and to support our work in our community. We need people who can sometimes give us a few hours (or more!) of their time, who have energy and skills they want to use in a constructive way, who, above all, care about our country and our fellow Canadians, and want to make a difference. If you are interested in exploring volunteer opportunities with the NDP, go to our contact page and leave a message. One of us will get back to you. We are always eager to welcome newcomers to "Team Mathyssen".Joe Wilson
